Three members of the Harlem Globetrotters have become unlikely ambassadors for sports diplomacy, arriving in Pyongyang today.

Lead by former NBA star, Dennis Rodman - also known as "The Worm" - the NBA players are in North Korea with a VICE production crew to shoot footage for a new TV show set to air on HBO in early April.

VICE producers told AP the Americans hope to engage in a little "basketball diplomacy" by running a basketball camp for children and playing games with locals.

Although Rodman says he's "honoured" to represent America, some of his fans have not been so supportive. So the former Chicago Bulls player took to Twitter to explain his travels saying: "I'm not a politician. Kim Jung [sic] Un & North Korean people are basketball fans. I love everyone. Period. End of story."

According to AP, Kim Jong Un was "basketball-crazy" while Rodman played with the Bulls and the VICE crew hope the country's leader will attend a scrimmage between with North Korea's top athletes.
