Qantas has postponed the launch of its in-flight wi-fi because of what it calls "stability issues" and now expects the service to come online in the middle of the year.

The carrier says it is working with the national broadband network and satellite firm ViaSat to fix issues which had emerged during late testing of a system that will allow domestic customers to stream entertainment in-flight.

"Some stability issues have emerged that we need to fix before customers can use it," Qantas said in a statement on Monday.
