A Queensland man fighting Islamic State militants in Syria says his Facebook post that stated he was coming home is a hoax.

Ashley Dyball posted on Friday that he had boarded a plane and was due to arrive in Brisbane on Saturday night but has since said that's not the case.

"To all my friends that weren't in on this I must tell you all this is a hoax," he wrote on a Facebook page under his alias Mitchell Scott.
