A Queensland police constable will face court accused of fracturing a man's jaw and eye socket.

The 41-year-old male officer has been charged with grievous bodily harm following a Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation into allegations he used excessive force against a 23-year-old British tourist in Cairns in April.

The CCC says there is reasonable prospects of successfully prosecuting the police constable, who is due to face the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 11.

"The CCC has reviewed the available evidence and determined there are reasonable prospects of a successful criminal prosecution," a spokesperson said.

The northern region officer has been stood down by the Queensland Police Service.
