Qld cops parked when truck crushed car

A marked police car was parked on the side of the Pacific Motorway on the Gold Coast when it was crushed by a small truck, police say.

Two police officers have been rushed to hospital after a small truck flattened their parked patrol car on a busy Gold Coast motorway.

The officer sitting in the driver's seat suffered abdominal injuries and had to be cut from wreckage following the smash, on a south-bound exit of the Pacific Motorway near Helensvale.

Police say the marked vehicle, containing the 48 and 50-year-old policemen, was parked on the side of the motorway when hit about 11.25am on Monday.

The truck driver, 26, was also taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with minor injuries.

Images from the scene showed a truck on its side and the back of the police car severely crushed.

Witness Joyce Zhi Xia posted photos to Facebook and described "sudden smoke up in the air" before the truck rolled.

"So scared and terrified. All just happened in seconds," she wrote.

The incident caused heavy delays on the M1, Queensland's busiest motorway, with traffic banked up for kilometres hours after the crash.

All three injured men were in a stable condition after the condition of the officer who had been trapped was downgraded on arrival at hospital, Queensland Ambulance operations supervisor Pat Berry said.

Investigations continue.
