Qld deserves NRL grand final: Pitt

Queensland's rugby league success warrants hosting an NRL grand final, according to the state's treasurer Curtis Pitt.

Hot on the heels of North Queensland reaching their second NRL grand final in three years, the state's politicians are ramping up calls for Queensland to host the fixture in the future.

Sydney's ANZ Stadium will host this weekend's decider between the Cowboys and Melbourne Storm as well as the 2018 grand final.

The Sydney venue is then due to undergo a multi-million redevelopment which could result in the code's marquee fixture being played outside Sydney for up to four years.

Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium is viewed as a front runner should the match be taken out of Sydney, with Melbourne and possibly Perth as rivals.

Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt says the success of the state's NRL and State of Origin teams mean there's no doubt in his mind a Brisbane grand final would be a success.

"The time is right. Queensland needs to get a grand final," Mr Pitt said.

"While some people will still suggest that NSW and Sydney is the spiritual home of rugby league, the true home of rugby league in terms of talent, spectator support and putting on the pizazz is Queensland."

NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg says a decision on grand finals during the ANZ Stadium redevelopment will hopefully be reached by the end of the year.
