The introduction of the Dukes ball threatens to swing the Sheffield Shield season in Queensland's favour after they rounded out a 133-run demolition of Tasmania at the Gabba.

The Bulls swung the ball dangerously, dismissing Tasmania for 200 in their first innings and 218 in the second to wrap up the victory.

"I think the Dukes ball really suits the way we play the game," opening batsman Joe Burns said on Saturday.

"Coming from Brisbane with the way we play the swinging ball anyway, it kind of lends itself to our strengths."

The bowling line-up of third-placed Queensland is stacked with quicks who shared the wickets in both innings before offspinner Jason Floros (3-72) did some damage.

Michael Neser was particularly dangerous early in the first innings, claiming three wickets alongside Mark Steketee before Jack Wildermuth struck in the second.

"Neser with his impact and his speed and the fact that he swings it both ways is very dangerous with the Dukes ball," Burns said.

"We've got Mark Steketee, who is very good with the Dukes ball."

The match also marked a special milestone in the career of Bulls captain Chris Hartley.

After he struck his first century in two summers to take the Bulls to 9(dec)-405 in the first innings, he captured his 547th scalp behind the stumps on Friday to take the competition record from Victorian Darren Berry.

"It was a very satisfying game for myself," Hartley said.

"The record in terms of most Shield dismissals is as special as it gets for a wicketkeeper, so it's a very proud personal achievement."

He also played a crucial role in wrapping up the win for the Bulls, which momentarily looked in doubt.

Chasing 352 for victory, Tasmania's hopes of even holding on for a draw appeared shattered when they slumped to 8-114 midway through the second session.

Then came tailenders Simon Milenko and Cameron Stevenson.

The pair combined for a 90-minute, 83-run partnership, denying the Bulls' bowlers for the best part of 24 overs.

Until man-of-the-match Hartley returned to the fray.

Picking up a difficult Jack Wildermuth throw on the half-volley, he quickly whipped off the bails to have Stevenson run out for 42.

Milenko was then finally bowled for 68 by Wildermuth (2-48) to seal the victory.
