A family's new puppy has had a lucky escape after getting stuck in a reclining chair on the Sunshine Coast.

"He was in the mechanism that makes it recline, that's where the poor pup had his head stuck ... we were a little worried at first but he's alright," a relieved Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman told AAP on Wednesday.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free Jackson from the chair after an on-hand vet sedated the three-month-old King Charles Spaniel.
