Qld footballers charged over Aust Day rape

Two rising Australian rules players were allegedly among a group of four who sexually assaulted another man and posted video of the incident online.

Two aspiring Australian Rules footballers were among a group who allegedly sexually assaulted another young man with a glass bottle and posted video of the incident online.

A Brisbane magistrate refused to allow the teammates to have contact with each other on Friday despite one's lawyer arguing the incident was a "youthful prank".

The Brisbane Magistrates Court heard the victim was allegedly assaulted with a glass bottle while passed out and only found out about the attack after his girlfriend saw the video on Facebook.

Police prosecutor Scott Pearson said the assault allegedly occurred when the 19-year-old victim passed out in one of the footballer's bedrooms during a party in Brisbane on Australia Day.

Screen shots posted to a Facebook conversation the next day, and seen by the victim, prompted comments from the alleged perpetrators such as "haha" and "funniest thing I've ever seen".

The video was allegedly posted to one man's Facebook page where all his friends could see it.

Police were later contacted and four men, aged 19 to 21, were charged with rape.

A 19-year-old aspiring AFL player was the first to face court on Friday.

His lawyer asked for a bail condition banning contact with the teen's teammate to be relaxed, saying potential collusion was not an issue in the case.

"Their defence is it was a youthful prank," lawyer Eugene Sullivan said.

"These blokes are all mates. They're all school mates. They're all family friends.

"These two in particular are teammates who are in pre-season training."

But Brisbane Magistrate John Costello refused to relax the bail condition after the allegations were read out.

The case was adjourned until November 30.

The footballer's teammate and two other men are due to face court on Monday.
