The Queensland government has committed $500,000 for resource exploration projects in northwest Queensland.

Natural Resources and Mines Minister Anthony Lynham made the announcement at the Queensland Resources Council annual luncheon on Wednesday, describing the region as the world's richest in base metals.

The injection of funds is on top of the recent release of land for exploration in the state's northwest.
