Qld govt offers $3.2m to save reef water

The Queensland government is offering a $3.2 million incentive to attract innovative ways to help improve the water quality of the Great Barrier Reef.

The Queensland government has offered a $3.2 million "cash carrot" to innovators who can improve the water quality of the Great Barrier Reef.

Minister for the Great Barrier Reef Dr Steven Miles said he hoped the incentive would "have a lasting effect' on reducing the nutrients, sediments and pesticides in water flowing into the reef.

The money, which is part of the government's $9 million Reef Innovation Fund, will be used to trial water treatment technologies and the development of better farming practices.
