Qld grassfire burning close to homes

Firefighters are backburning and constructing fire breaks in a bid to protect properties from a grassfire at Bucca, near Bundaberg.

Firefighters are working to protect a number of homes from a grassfire burning in southern Queensland.

Backburning is underway and fire breaks are being constructed in an effort to prevent the blaze spreading to nearby properties.

The fire broke out at 2.30pm (AEST) and is burning near Billabong Way at Bucca, near Bundaberg.

Smoke haze will affect Bucca and surrounding areas, the Department of Community Safety says.

Meanwhile, a watch and act message is current for Walligan and Takura, near Hervey Bay, where a large bushfire is burning.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) has advised residents in the vicinity of Lease Road and Newbauers Road at Walligan, and Hornes Road and Torbanlea-Pialba Road at Takura, to enact their bushfire plans.
