Queensland has recorded the shortest wait time for elective surgery in Australia for the second year in a row, according to a new report.

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report shows the median wait for elective surgery in Queensland was 29 days, compared to the national median wait time of 37 days.

In addition, 90 per cent of all elective surgeries in Queensland occurred within 163 days, putting Queensland in second place nationally behind WA which has 161 day wait times.
