A third of Queensland's kids are spending more than than two hours a day staring at screens, putting them at high risk of obesity and chronic disease, the Cancer Council says.

The council says the alarming statistic will be officially revealed in an upcoming report by Queensland's chief health officer.

The report will also reveal that more than half of the state's children in the five to 17 year age bracket aren't physically active every day.
