Qld man charged for excavator hit and run

Police have charged a man after a woman was hit by a construction vehicle in Brisbane on Thursday morning, with the hit-and-run captured on CCTV.

A man has been charged for a hit-and-run after CCTV emerged showing an excavator mowing down a woman on a Brisbane street.

Police on Friday charged a 58-year-old Flinders View man with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm with callous disregard.

The woman, who suffered critical head injuries, can be seen crossing Hamilton Place at the intersection of Campbell Street at Bowen Hills when the large vehicle makes a left turn and runs her over.

The footage, captured just before 1am on Thursday, shows the excavator briefly stopping down the street after the crash before driving off again.

Another car rounds the corner and stops after it passes the woman who is lying on the ground.

People run to help the woman before paramedics arrive on the scene and take her to hospital.

The woman has had emergency surgery and is still fighting for life.

The man is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 25.
