Qld man hit in eye with police taser

A Queensland man who allegedly ran at police with a knife was hit in the eye with a taser probe and undergoing treatment in hospital.

A Queensland man is being treated in hospital after being hit in the eye with a police taser.

Police say they were called to deal with a man armed with knives and making threats in Chinchilla, west of Toowoomba, on Friday night.

Officers tried to negotiate with him, but the "highly agitated" man broke through a security screen and ran at them with a knife, police said.

"Police deployed a single taser cycle, but the man then attempted to pick up another knife, resulting in police deploying a second taser cycle," a police statement read.

"During the incident, the man was struck in his left eye by one of the taser probes."

He was restrained and taken to Chinchilla Hospital for treatment, before being transferred to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane on Saturday morning.

Ethical Standards Command will investigate the incident.
