A man has faced a Brisbane court, charged with the torture and murder of a baby girl almost 18 months ago.

A Queensland man charged with the murder and torture of a one-month-old baby girl has briefly faced a Brisbane court.

Michael John Humphreys, 28, showed little emotion as he appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday morning charged with murder, torture, failing to provide the necessities of life and assault occasioning bodily harm.

The baby girl died of blunt force trauma injuries in the small town of Gunalda, near Gympie, in September 2012.

The man from Beenleigh, south of Brisbane, did not apply for bail.

He was arrested on Thursday, after a 17-month police investigation.

Magistrate Brian Kucks remanded the man in custody to reappear in court on March 17 for a committal call-over.
