A man shot in the leg south of Brisbane isn't co-operating with investigators, police say.

The 19-year-old man was wounded at Kingston about 10am, sparking a large-scale search for his attacker.

The shooting, which happened at Mudgee Street near bushland, also sent Kingston State College into lockdown.

Paramedics treated the man for the leg wound before taking him to the Princess Alexandra hospital in a stable condition.

The man has not lodged a police complaint and he and a friend who witnessed the shooting had refused to co-operate with investigators, a police spokesman told AAP.
