Qld mayors make last ditch housing bid

A delegation of mayors from Queensland's remote indigenous communities are travelling to Canberra in a bid to finalise housing funding.

Indigenous mayors from across Queensland are travelling to Canberra in a last-ditch lobbying effort for remote housing funding.

They will meet with Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion and demand he stump up the cash or face job losses in communities already crippled by unemployment as well as a decline in people's health due to overcrowding.

"There are a lot of families living in a bedroom, and you can see the health effect, there's always skin disease outbreaks, rheumatic fever has been up on the rise," Lockhart River Mayor Wayne Butcher told AAP.
