Labor defector Rob Pyne is aiming to use his position as an independent in Queensland's hung parliament to decriminalise abortion in the state.
Mr Pyne, who left Labor for the cross bench in March, says he plans on Tuesday to table a private members' bill to remove abortion from the criminal code.
Hundreds of people are expected to rally outside parliament in support of his actions before parliament sits on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, the Liberal National Party's new-look shadow cabinet will sit in parliament for the first time following last week's leadership spill.
New Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls and deputy Deb Frecklington will be joined by newly-promoted Shadow Treasurer Scott Emerson, as well as several new faces including Dale Last (agriculture), Christian Rowan (environment) and Michael Hart (energy).
Former deputy premier Jeff Seeney is also expected to liven up proceedings, particularly during Question Time, with his elevation to leader of opposition business.
The government was on Monday yet to reveal what legislation it planned to introduce during the week.
However, it's expected there will be debate on Tuesday about legislation aimed at reversing Newman government changes to national parks.
