Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt has refused to call for Billy Gordon's resignation, but has urged the controversial MP to pay thousands of dollars in child support he reportedly owes.

The Cairns Post reports Mr Gordon, who last year quit the Labor party in disgrace, owes more than $13,000 in child support payments to an ex-partner.

"Revelations around child support payments are certainly ones that I've read about, but I can't confirm that those are indeed the case. I trust that they are," Mr Pitt told reporters in Cairns on Tuesday.

"If that's the case, then Mr Gordon has responsibilities and, of course, he need to address those."

But despite the latest controversy, Mr Pitt refused to weigh in on whether Mr Gordon should resign from parliament, insisting that was a matter for him.

"You're asking me to provide commentary on a decision that I have no bearing on," he said, indicating Mr Gordon was now an independent MP.

"In terms of what his political future is, he's either able to make that decision on his own, or he will have that decision made for him by the people in that electorate."

AAP attempted to contact Mr Gordon on a number provided by his electorate office but the call was answered by a woman who said "No, sorry wrong number."

When told the number was given out by his electorate office, she replied "oh, OK" and the line became muffled for about 20 seconds before hanging up.

The latest scandal comes as Mr Gordon prepares to appear in court in Mareeba next week on drink driving and unlicensed driving charges.

The politician allegedly blew 0.94, almost double the legal limit, after being pulled over by police after the first State of Origin match earlier this month.

He resigned from Labor last April over an undisclosed criminal record and amid allegations of domestic violence, from which no charges resulted.

Mr Gordon was also being hounded for unpaid child support at the time, but had told parliament in March he was up to date.

He made headlines again in October after allegedly sending explicit photos to three women.

Two of his electoral staff walked out about the same time.
