A Queensland mother who left her 13-month-old child in the sun while in a drug-induced stupor has been placed on probation for a year.

The 42-year-old mother of two pleaded guilty in the Brisbane District Court on Thursday to one count of leaving a child under 12 unattended.

Judge Michael Burnett handed her a 12-month probation order with no conviction recorded, telling the woman she had inflicted "great hurt" on her children, and imploring her to work on becoming a role model to them in the future.
