Qld officer shoots dog during arrest

Queensland Police's ethical standards command are investigating after a dog squad officer fatally shot a during an arrest on the Gold Coast.

A Queensland officer has shot and killed a dog that attacked his German shepherd during an arrest on the Gold Coast.

Police dog Bravo was injured when attacked by the bull-mastiff-cross in Coomera bushland as a number of police officers tried to locate a 31-year-old man following a domestic dispute and robbery on Sunday night.

Police allege the man's family's dog mauled Bravo's head, muzzle and legs after he tracked them into thick scrub, forcing officers to use capsicum spray to subdue it.

As their attempts failed, the dog squad officer fired one shot to fatally injure the attacking animal.

The man's sister, Jay Greentree, has told the Nine Network the family is upset and shocked they must now bury their 10-year-old pet.

The police ethical standards command is investigating the incident while the 31-year-old man has been charged with stealing, obstructing police, using a carriage service to harass and possessing a drug utensil.
