Qld officers on taxpayer-funded baton trip

Seven Queensland police officers will travel the world at taxpayer expense during the Commonwealth Games baton relay.

Queensland taxpayers will foot the bill when seven senior Queensland police officers travel across the world as part of the Commonwealth Games baton relay.

The inspectors, who earn up to $140,000 a year, will visit locations including the Seychelles, Jamaica, Canada, the UK and Bahamas for up to 53 days as asset custodians, The Courier-Mail reports.

The Queensland Police Service says the team will provide safety and security advice, as well as liaise with local law enforcement agencies during the baton relay, in line with a similar move for Melbourne officers during the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
