Queensland's flu season is well and truly under way with hundreds more cases recorded than at the same time last year.
Queensland Health's Influenza Surveillance Report shows there have been more than 4200 flu cases so far this year - 300 more than at the same point last year.
There has also been more than 500 hospitalised cases.
But Queensland Health says the increase doesn't necessarily mean this year's flu season will be worse overall, and the higher number of cases currently is likely due to more testing.
Last year, Queensland had more than 56,000 flu cases making it one of the state's worst seasons on record.
New flu testing technology has been rolled out in 15 of Queensland's largest hospitals in preparation for this year's flu season.
This new technology can provide results within 30 minutes, assisting hospitals in the early diagnosis and management of people with flu.
