Qld researchers shine light on twins

Scientists at the Queensland University of Technology say new research could lead to improvements in IVF treatment.

Queensland researchers have uncovered another piece of the puzzle into just what causes the birth of twins.

Queensland University of Technology scientists, in conjunction with researchers in Europe and the United States, have found women with two genetic variants are 29 per cent more likely to have dizygotic or non-identical twins.

Associate Professor Dale Nyholt says the discovery could also lead to improvements in IVF treatments through the use of a genetic test.
