A man accused of four rapes in Queensland's southeast will remain in custody after a brief court mention on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old, who cannot be identified, did not appear in Southport Magistrates Court with his matter adjourned until Friday.

The man was arrested on Saturday as part of a police investigation into several sexual assaults on the Gold Coast, Logan and south Brisbane areas since 2005.

Police allege the man committed four rapes between 2008 and 2016.

He is facing 14 charges, including four counts of rape and two of sexual assault, and has not applied for bail.

Police say the investigation into the sexual assaults, including eight other offences dating back to 2005, is ongoing and further charges could be laid.

Detective Inspector Mark Thompson urged other potential victims to contact police during a press conference announcing the arrest on Saturday.

"We urge these people to come forward and allow detectives to support you in your time of need," Det Insp Thompson said.
