Qld skateboarder critical after road crash

A 33-year-old Gold Coast man is in a critical condition after he was hit by a car while riding his electric skateboard.

A man is fighting for life after he was hit by a car while riding his motorised skateboard on a major Gold Coast road.

The 33-year-old suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition after the incident on Robina Parkway on Monday night.

Initial investigations suggest the man was riding his skateboard on the road.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Gold Coast Queensland Ambulance senior operations supervisor Jayney Shearman said the incident was a graphic reminder to skateboarders about road safety.

"This was a devastating incident and our thoughts are with the families involved with this," she said.

"As any sort of road user, there's a shared responsibility. It's important that we wear appropriate safety equipment that will keep us safe such as a helmet."

Ms Sherman urged skateboarders to be aware of what's happening around them and make sure they are seen by drivers.

They should also avoid skateboarding at night.

"It's important to be careful and to be predictable."

Queensland police's Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
