Qld teens charged over possum cruelty

Two Queensland teenagers have been charged with serious animal cruelty after running over a possum and posting the incident on Snapchat.

Two teenagers are facing serious animal cruelty charges after allegedly running over a possum until its entrails were hanging out and posting footage of the incident on Snapchat.

The video showed the possum struggling under the car wheel and a young man smiling and throwing his arms up in the air as the severed animal tried to scamper away.

RSPCA Queensland was alerted to the footage by a woman who said she'd received it through Snapchat.

Inspectors have charged Callum Gibson Mckenzie, 17, and Hunter Lawrence Jonasen, 17, with serious animal cruelty, an offence that carries a maximum seven years' jail.

RSPCA Queensland CEO Mark Townend said assistance from the public had helped track down the alleged offenders.

Meanwhile, the RSPCA is seeking public help to find those responsible for the arrow shooting of a kangaroo in Brisbane's south.

The roo, discovered near a Greenbank road, and her two-week old fetus died.
