Queensland won't support Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's plan to allow states to levy income tax, the state's treasurer says.
Curtis Pitt will head to Canberra on Thursday with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk ahead of Council of Australian Governments talks, where he says he'll tell the prime minister Queensland won't accept the offer.
"People shouldn't have to be concerned about the federal government not providing the support it has for decades," Mr Pitt told ABC radio on Thursday.
"They make the cuts and now the health and education shortfall is apparently the states' problem."
Mr Pitt said the proposal should have been discussed with state leaders instead of floated in the media.
His comments come after Ms Palaszczuk on Wednesday refused to offer her opinion on the proposal, insisting she hadn't seen enough detail.
"I think the devil is in the detail and we have not seen any detail," Ms Palaszczuk told reporters in Canberra on Thursday.
The premier said the commonwealth currently collected 80 per cent of all revenue.
"All I'm asking for is a fair share for Queensland," she said.
She was concerned education funding had not been included on the COAG agenda.
