A Queensland mum left her two-year-old boy at home alone for seven hours while she partied, police say.

The 18-year-old woman faces criminal charges after allegedly leaving her son at home by himself when she headed to a pub in the Cairns CBD about 1.30am (AEST) on Sunday.

The woman arrived home about 8.30am to find concerned police officers at the property.

The woman is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on January 20 charged with leaving a child unattended.

Detectives from the child protection investigation unit are investigating.
