Qld town warned as bushfire approaches

A bushfire near Queensland's Sunshine Coast is bearing down on a small town of 200 with residents warned to prepare to leave.

Residents in a small town north of Brisbane have been warned to prepare to leave, as a bushfire approaches the community of around 270.

The blaze is travelling in a southerly direction from Smith Road and Bauple Woolooga Road towards the town of Woolooga, northwest of Gympie.

Waterbombing operations have begun, but firefighters warned they may not be able to protect all the properties under threat, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said on Wednesday.
