A Queensland woman has been charged over a hit-and-run crash in Adelaide that left a cyclist dead.

Police allege the woman, 37, was driving at Lower Inman Valley, south of Adelaide, on Friday morning when she hit the female cyclist and drove off.

About an hour later, a solo police patrol on the Southern Expressway at Lonsdale spotted two people in a car with front-end damage and a cracked windscreen.

The officer suspected the car was involved in the fatal hit and run.

Both occupants were arrested, while the car was seized for forensic examination.

The female driver was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

She was refused bail and is expected to face Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday.

The passenger, a 47-year-old man from Collinswood, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

He was released from custody and is expected to appear in court on February 26.
