A woman is fighting for her life after being attacked with an axe in a remote north Queensland community.
The 25-year-old is in a critical condition in Townsville Base Hospital following Wednesday's early morning attack in the community of Doomadgee.
Police on Saturday said they had charged a 36-year-old man with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was expected to face court on Saturday.
The man and the woman are known to each other, police say.
