Qld's CCC further probes Bailey email saga

Queensland's corruption watchdog is looking further into the controversial appointment of Energy Queensland board member Mark Algie.

Queensland's Crime and Corruption Commission will look into the controversial appointment of an Energy Queensland director after his CV was forwarded to the energy minister by a union boss.

Mark Algie was appointed to the Energy Queensland board in 2016, less than a fortnight after Electrical Trades Union secretary Peter Simpson sent his resume to Minister Mark Bailey on his private email account - mango-cube6@yahoo.co.uk.

Mr Bailey had been under investigation for subsequently deleting his private account following a Right To Information request from the media.

The then-energy minister, who is now the transport minister, was eventually cleared by CCC of corrupt practices but was criticised for his actions, which also saw the Palaszczuk government draft new ministerial guidelines.

CCC chairman Alan MacSporran on Friday told a parliamentary committee the corruption watchdog has requested documents to see if Mr Algie's board appointment was made with any improper interference.

Mr MacSporran said while the forwarding of the CV was not corrupt, the CCC might reopen their investigation into Mr Bailey's emails if the requested documents show proper process wasn't followed.

"If the material that comes to us from the appointment process gives us reasonable suspicion to suspect that there has been a corruption of the appointment process, we would then determine almost certainly to commence an investigation into that matter," he said.

"But we are not yet there."

The episode has seen the Liberal National Party renew calls for Mr Bailey to be sacked.

Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington said it showed there was "fundamental problems of accountability" within the Labor government.

Ms Frecklington pointed to the "back-channel emails" and the ongoing scandal with the Labor-aligned Ipswich City Council to claim the party is allowing a culture of secrecy and cover-ups.

"Annastacia Palaszczuk and her Labor government are caught in a web of lies and it's all slowly coming undone," she said.

"Mark Bailey needs to be sacked. He should have been sacked a year ago."
