Quake measuring 5.7 strikes south of Tonga

The US Geological Survey says a 5.7 magnitude quake has struck south of Tonga.

An earthquake in the South Pacific measuring 5.7 magnitude has struck 268 kilometres south of the island of Nuku'alofa in Tonga, the US Geological Survey says.

USGS downgraded the magnitude, after initially estimating it at 6.1.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not issue a warning.
