Quake minute's silence at Italian matches

After the earthquake that's killed at least 37 people in central Italy, there will be a minute's silence this weekend before all Serie A football matches.

A minute's silence will be observed before all professional football matches in Italy this week to mourn the victims of Wednesday's earthquake that rocked the central part of the country.

The Italian football federation also says national teams will wear black armbands "in a sign of solidarity during a time of such great pain for the entire country".

Italy's civil protection agency says at least 37 people died early on Wednesday in the magnitude 6.2 quake.

The quake struck at 3:36am local time and was felt across a broad swathe of central Italy, including Rome.

Serie A matches are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, and Italy face France in a friendly on September 1 in the southern town of Bari.
