A large earthquake has rattled Wellington but police say there have been no reports of damage. The widely-felt earthquake hit just after 10pm (8pm AEDT).

A large earthquake has rattled Wellington but police say there have been no reports of damage. The widely-felt earthquake hit just after 10pm (8pm AEDT).

The earthquake measuring 4.5 hit 20km northwest of Wellington at a depth of 40km. GNS Science said it was widely felt in the North Island and upper South Island.
