Quake strikes off Dominica

The island of Dominica in the Caribbean Sea has been struck by a magnitude 5.8 quake.

A magnitude 5.8 quake has struck off the island of Dominica in the Caribbean Sea's Lesser Antilles archipelago, the US Geological Survey says.

The quake's epicentre on Tuesday was 24km west of the capital, Roseau.

Although a magnitude 5.8 quake is capable of causing considerable damage, it was a relatively deep 148km below the seabed, which would mitigate its impact.
