Quake strikes off Tonga's coast

A large, shallow earthquake has struck off the coast of Tonga, but has not triggered a tsunami warning for the region.

An earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude has struck off the east coast of the Pacific island of Tonga.

There were no immediate reports of damage from the quake on Wednesday in a region which is regularly hit my tremors.

The quake struck 206km east northeast of the Tonga capital and was a shallow 14 km deep, the US Geological Survey said

No immediate tsunami warning was issued.
