Quake then tsunami hit Vanuatu

A major 7.6-magnitude earthquake rocked the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu followed by a 23-centimetre tsunami, but no widespread tsunami warning was issued.

The tsunami hit Vanuatu's capital Port Vila, and seismologists warned bigger waves may be seen in other areas.

The undersea quake struck at a depth of 60 kilometres roughly 40 kilometres from the main island of Efate, which includes the capital Port Vila, Geoscience Australia said.
