Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown will return as the starter on Sunday (Monday AEDT) for the first time since suffering a broken collarbone last month.
Coach Hue Jackson announced on Friday that the veteran will lead the offence when the winless Browns (0-7) host the New York Jets (2-5) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Quarterback Cody Kessler, who was 0-5 as a starter, remains in the NFL's concussion protocol and has been ruled out.
The other quarterbacks on the roster are rookies Kevin Hogan and Joe Callahan. With Kessler sidelined, Hogan will be the backup.
McCown's return comes after he suffered a broken left collarbone in round two against the Baltimore Ravens on September 18 in his only game this season.
He was medically cleared Wednesday and practiced fully for the first time since the injury. He had been doing limited work in practice the previous two weeks.
Meanwhile, Denver Broncos running back CJ Anderson was placed on injured reserve after undergoing surgery on his right knee one day earlier.
Anderson underwent an arthroscopic procedure to repair meniscus damage.
A timetable for his return hasn't yet been determined but the decision to place him on injured reserve means he would have to miss at least eight games.
Washington Redskins running back Matt Jones has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals in London with a knee injury.
While Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles has been ruled out of Sunday's game at the Indianapolis Colts due to knee problems.
