Qube raises $250m from institutions

Logistics firm Qube, which is acquiring Asciano's Patrick port business, has raised $250 million through a rights share placement to institutions.

Logistics firm Qube has raised $250 million through a rights share placement to institutional investors as part of its fund raising related to its Asciano acquisition.

Qube said nearly 92 per cent of entitlements had been taken up by shareholders, with shares offered at $2.05 each.

The retail portion of the share offer, which is to raise another $244 million, will open on March 21.

Qube, along with Canadian infrastructure giant Brookfield and six other global investment funds, on Tuesday agreed to take over rail and ports operator Asciano for $9.05 billion.

Under the deal, Qube and Brookfield will jointly acquire Asciano's Patrick container terminal business for $2.92 billion.

Qube will separately raise another $306 million from a share placement to Canadian fund CPPIB at a higher price of $2.14 per share.
