Queensland cases of black lung

A handful of cases of black lung have been confirmed in Queensland, but they are believed to be just the tip of the iceberg.

REPORTED BLACK LUNG CASES IN QUEENSLAND:

December 1, 2015 - Percy Verall, 72, Ipswich coalfields. State's first confirmed case in 30 years. Two unnamed cases from Vale-run Carborough Downs mine also confirmed.

January, 2016 - Third unnamed case from Carborough Downs mine.

January 12, 2016 - Keith Stoddart, 66, worked at Middlemount's Grasstree mine since 1970s.

January 15, 2016 - 51-year-old former electrician, sixth confirmed case, worked in underground coal mines.

May 13, 2016 - 55-year-old central Queensland man, seventh confirmed case, underground miner for 28 years.

May 17, 2016 - Man in early 40s, worked in NSW and QLD mines. Announced by CFMEU, not confirmed by Department of Mines.

June 30, 2016 - 55-year-old, eighth confirmed case, worked at Bowen Basin mines for more than 20 years.

July 1, 2016 - 62-year-old Bowen Basin underground coal miner, ninth confirmed case.
