Queensland man drowns in Canada

The body of a Queensland man has been found by Canadian police after he drowned while canoeing with a friend in Ontario.

A Brisbane man has drowned while canoeing in Canada.

Bennett Zeller, 22, had been canoeing with a friend in Georgian Bay in Ontario when it capsized last Thursday.

Mr Zeller's friends paid tribute on social media after Canadian police found his body on Tuesday morning (AEST).

"Today confirms the day we lost one of life's legends. You were a true inspiration and a good friend. We'll always miss you buddy," wrote Zak McDonald.

"Bennett Zeller you were one good dude!!!," said David J Fisher.

Ontario authorities reportedly said the incident occurred less than a week after a 25-year-old Mexican national also died after his canoe overturned, and that neither man was wearing a life jacket.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says the family is being offered consular assistance.
