Around $30,000 worth of seafood has been stolen from a southeast Queensland restaurant, just over a week before Christmas.
The heist occurred about 2am on Wednesday when a man forced open an external freezer at the Woody Point restaurant, near Redcliffe, before taking off with an estimated 30 boxes of prawns, crabs, Moreton Bay Bugs and fish.
Moreton Criminal Investigation Branch Officer in Charge Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Hogan described the theft as "callous", especially given it occurred a little more than a week out from Christmas, when seafood is a staple for many Australians.
"Not only does this have a financial impact on the restaurant, but it's the time of year where many people like to come and enjoy a Christmas seafood meal - and this theft flies in the face of the spirit of the season."
Police say the seafood was in a distinctive white box bearing a Cleveland Bay Seafood logo and want to speak to anyone who heard or saw anything in the area between 1.50am and 2.10am.
