The founder of a fledgling Queensland political party wants to meet with Independent MP Bob Katter to consider combining forces.

Mr Katter called for candidates to run for his Katter's Australian Party, which will stand for agricultural issues at the next Queensland and federal elections.

Queensland Party leader Aidan McLindon on Monday said the two parties had a lot in common.

The former Liberal National Party MP formed the breakaway party one year ago as a new moderate force in state politics.

The Queensland Party's advantage was its state-based nature, Mr McLindon told ABC Radio.

"Until we actually put Queensland first in everything we do, any other model over time will slowly become dictated to by Canberra as we're seeing in the ALP and the LNP," he said.

Mr McLindon said the two parties should meet and ensure they were making the most of their similarities.

"If we're all singing the same hymn then why would we be running in the same seats?" he said.

"No doubt negotiations would take place.

"That may be some form of alliance, in terms of whether we find there is enough common ground for one to run the state side of things and one to run the federal side of things."

Independent MP Rob Messenger on Monday said he was considering joining Mr Katter's new force, calling the maverick MP "a living legend".

"Bob's got my attention and I want to hear more," he told ABC Radio.
