A teenage boy is undergoing surgery at a Brisbane hospital after being shot by police early on Sunday.
Queensland Police said the boy, 16, confronted officers in Brisbane's southwest and threatened them armed with knives.
Officers were called to a disturbance in Forest Lake, where they were confronted by the teen.
As the situation escalated, officers fired their guns and the boy was hit in the stomach.
Ethical Standards Command is now investigating the incident.
At a press conference on Sunday, Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming from Queensland Police said "the officers felt it was necessary to discharge their weapons. Both officers discharged their weapons".

"[The boy received] non-life-threatening injuries and I understand he is going through surgery at the moment."
"This is a tragedy for the young man and his family ... This is a really difficult time for them."
He said one of the officers suffered an injury in the altercation, adding it was a "very distressing situation" for officers involved.
