Queensland prisoners in mass drug overdose

Six Queensland prisoners are in hospital after what authorities suspect was a mass drug overdose at a jail near Rockhampton.

Six prisoners are in hospital after a suspected mass drug overdose inside a Queensland correctional centre.

The Capricornia Correctional Centre was forced into lockdown and paramedics called about 12.40pm on Sunday as prisoners began falling ill.

All are understood to be stable in hospital, Queensland Corrective Services said on Sunday night.

She said no further prisoners had fallen ill but were being monitored.

The symptoms may be related to drug ingestion but further consultation with paramedics, police and the health department would be needed to establish the cause of the incident, a QCS statement said.
