Question time in federal parliament

What we learned, heard and were amused by in question time on Thursday.

QUESTION TIME IN FEDERAL PARLIAMENT

WHAT WE LEARNED

* Young unemployed people in Townsville don't find the idea of having a job boring, according to Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce.

WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN

* Small companies are already benefiting from a corporate tax cut - creating more investment and more jobs - and all businesses across the country could similarly be better off and create more jobs if parliament agrees to extended these.

WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT

* How the government is making it harder to achieve Close the Gap targets by cutting money from indigenous affairs budgets.

THEY SAID WHAT

"What we have is a 200-year level of disparity and in 10 years we have set targets that address health, education, and we're extending that to employment opportunities." - Indigenous Health Minister Ken Wyatt

"We're sticking with our positions on the economy. The only convictions the Labor Party knows are Eddie Obeid, Ian Macdonald, Craig Thomson and the Labor thugs." - Treasurer Scott Morrison sticks the boot in.

"If the honourable member wants to fight us on tax cuts for business and fight us on jobs, we'll fight him here and we'll fight him at the next election." - Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull comes so close to channelling Winston Churchill.

TWEETED

@GrahamPerrettMP: In one of my circles of hell there are LNP Ministers endlessly reading The Australian out loud. #QT @StevenCiobo

@tanya_plibersek: PrEP is a game changer. If PBAC recommends PrEP for government subsidy, the Liberals should get on and list it immediately. No delays, no excuses. Let's get to zero new HIV infections.

@sussanley: Downwater or Bust: If Labor plays games with the 605gl SDL offsets I will be urging NSW and Victoria to exit the Basin Plan.
